NORTH YARMOUTH- Skyline Farm Carriage Museum, 95 The Lane, North Yarmouth, features its summer exhibit, “Special Deliveries”, on Sundays from May 18 through Aug. 17, 1-4 p.m., or by appointment. Free admission, donations welcome. Various types of horse-drawn delivery vehicles, some of which are depicted on vintage postage stamps, will be highlighted, including the stunning 1874 Abbot-Downing Co. Stagecoach that delivered mail and passengers from Harrison to Bridgton, ME. Made in Concord NH, it has been depicted on U.S. postage stamps celebrating Overland Mail and Pacific 97.

Rural Free Delivery (R.F.D.) was established to give farmers the same free mail system city dwellers had. The exhibit will display several types of these vehicles including the most common box style vehicle depicted on postage stamps.

Pony Express, another form of mail delivery, was a private delivery service from St. Joseph, MO, to Sacramento, CA, that provided a faster and cheaper mail service to and from the Pacific Coast. A Pony Express scene will be created for this Special Deliveries exhibit.
