 Important Pooled Testing Information 

If you/your student have enrolled in pooled testing we are asking for your help! Staff and Students who have tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 90 days with a lab driven test (PCP, Walgreens, CVS) will be excluded from the pool until their 90 days are complete. We do NOT accept home test results. At that time we will have that individual placed back into their pre-assigned pool. This is because an individual could test positive for up to 90 days after being diagnosed with COVID-19. This can reflect an inaccurate positive for that pool.
 
Please notify Nicole Anderson (nanderson@msad51.org) and Lora Rolfe (lrolfe@msad51.org) if you/your student have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 90 days. Please include the student's First name, Last name, and grade level.

Community Letter 

Dear MSAD 51 Community, 

As you may have seen on social media, we recently were able to add communication boards to our playgrounds at MIW and GMS. This was a combined effort involving our Speech & Language Pathologists, Functional Life Skills Teacher, and Administration. Some of our students with communication disorders rely on pictures to express themselves and are now able to access core vocabulary words while enjoying playground equipment with their peers. This is a very exciting opportunity for all students. 

Unfortunately, this beautiful addition and voice for some of our students was vandalized this past weekend at Greely Middle School. Not only was the board broken, but the r-word that is used to insult people, and specifically targets people with intellectual disabilities, was written on it. This event has brought many emotions to the staff involved in making the board possible, and to the amazing children and families that were excited to use it. Beyond this, it was an affront to the entire school community and its core mission. We know that this vandalism does not represent Greely community values and we want all students and their families to feel safe and supported here at school. 

We are a community of inclusion, love, and acceptance of all. Our mission is to help all students achieve their personal best, whatever that may look like. Incidents like this are an opportunity for parents, students, and staff to come together and learn from one another just how hurtful and unacceptable these events are. We are hopeful the individual(s) who did this did not know the actual impact it would have. We invite you to take this opportunity to have conversations in your homes about respecting property, accepting all people, and teaching how much our actions and words can hurt others. For more information on how to respond when you hear this word or how to talk with your children about the use of this word, you can refer to this document produced by the Special Olympics.  

Please join us as we work to ensure every student feels safe and supported while they are here at school. 

Elementary Dismissal

Over the first few weeks of school, we appreciate everyone's patience with traffic flow on campus, especially the backup of vehicles on Campus Drive for elementary dismissal.  In order to assist in moving up to 200 cars daily through the MIW circle for student pickup, here are some measures we have taken:
  • refined our pickup procedures which have helped get vehicles through the line in under 20 minutes, thanks to the administration and staff for their hands-on approach to walking students to cars efficiently;
  • asked our school resource officer, Amie Owen, to help move cars and buses along at the most congested points on Campus Drive;
  • placed a new crosswalk between Tuttletown and the track to help students cross safely without having to find a crosswalk further down the street.
MIW staff are ready and waiting for students' numbers to be called for pickup so they can walk students to their parents' vehicles.
 
But we need your help:
  • If you are picking up your child for elementary dismissal, we ask that you arrive between 3:00-3:15 and not earlier. It only takes MIW 20 minutes to get kids in cars once the process begins at 3:15, but the backlog of cars earlier than 3:15 causes other delays on campus, especially with buses leaving GMS for secondary runs. Arriving before 3:15 for pickup does not save any more time given how quickly the pickup process moves along when it starts.
  • Please do not dismiss your child early to avoid the pickup line. This causes more delays in pickup, traffic, and school offices.

MSAD #51 Needs Your Help!

MSAD #51 seeks several people to supervise children in grades K-5 during lunch/recess (typically 11:00am-1:00pm). These are paid positions ($15 per hour).
