As part of our Strategic Plan, an 18-member committee was formed in September to study the concept of starting school later for secondary grades students, in line with contemporary research. The committee met over the last several months and developed a proposal (see link below).

As a result of this proposal, K-5 students also would need to start school later due to busing schedules.  If approved, this change would be in place for the 2016-17 year.

Thank you to all 1,300 stakeholders who responded to an earlier survey regarding interest in a late start schedule.  86% of students and 83% of parents/staff who responded indicated that they would be supportive of a later start time to the school day.

You can also access this document on the district's website atwww.msad51.org.
The Board of Directors will hear a presentation on February 1 on this topic and is scheduled to vote whether to accept the committee's recommendation on February 22.  Two public hearings will be held on Feb. 1 and 22 for those who wish to address the Board on the proposal.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
